Diabetes Education
The Diabetes Education Program at BBGH has a Certificate of Recognition from the American Diabetes Association. This certificate means the program meets national standards for diabetes self-management education. The hospital’s Diabetes Education Program first became a certified program in January 2006.
The Program is designed for Type I or Type II Diabetes, Gestational, and Pre-diabetes.

Tiredness
Frequent urination
Dry, itchy skin
Frequent infections or sores that won’t heal
Numbness or tinging in hands or feet
Irritability
Increased urination (polyuria)
Increased hunger or appetite (polyphagia)
Increased thirst (polydipsia)
Weight loss
Tiredness
The Program has two Certified Diabetic Educators: Sue Steele, RN CDE; and Kristin Kesterson, RD, LMNT, CDE

The offices of Diabetes Education are located in Suite 2107, located in the building just to the north of the Hospital's Emergency Department. Please use the south door to enter the building. Diabetes Education Support Group
Classes are held the second Thursday of every month in the Medical Arts Plaza Sandhills Conference Room, between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m., during the school year, unless otherwise noted. There is no charge for classes. During the months when the class is held, the staff puts out an interesting DiaBeat Newsletter featuring helpful tips and great recipes. The Support Group meetings are usually discontinued during the summer months.
