Dialysis Unit

It was December 28 of 2000 when this vital service treated its first patient at BBGH. The hospital decided to offer dialysis treatments after hearing concerns from residents within its service area that it was needed, concerns first heard in the late 1990s from Bud and Marie Roes of Hemingford.

The Dialysis Unit treats patients with chronic end stage renal failure. When the new Dialysis Unit was approved by the hospital’s Board of Trustees, it was believed only four to five residents in the BBGH service area would be using it at first, with a schedule of just three days a week to reflect that estimate. However, even before it opened referrals indicated a much stronger need, and the Unit was soon adding staff and machines to meet the demand.

In January of 2008, the hospital installed the latest in hemodialysis machines – the Fresenius 2008K, made possible by a very generous anonymous donation, given to the hospital in 2007.

The Dialysis Unit is open Monday thru Saturday from 5:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with four full time RNs, three full time LPNs, one part time LPN, a Social Worker and Dietician on staff to help patients with their dialysis needs.
