At Box Butte General Hospital, you’ll find some of the most advanced medical imaging systems available. Services include: Diagnostic X-Ray CT Scan Mammography (FDA Approved; ACR Accredited) Ultrasound Bone Densitometry (DEXA) Nuclear Medicine Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)Our exams are read by board certified radiologists and doctors specifically trained to read diagnostic images. We currently have a radiologist at BBGH one day a week to perform diagnostic procedures. Our advanced technology allows us to immediately route images to the radiologists for interpretation. The images are networked to the radiologists who are able to view the images utilizing internet capability. The radiologist interprets the exam and reports are transmitted back to BBGH and the patient’s physician. Because most of our exams are being stored electronically, please call two to three days in advance if you need to check out your films or CD with the images, we will be happy to make these available for you.
All services for children in our Medical Imaging Department requiring exposure to radiation follow Image Gently protocols. Diagnostic X-Ray Our Diagnostic Imaging Services are state-of-the-art and provide some of the finest imaging services available. We utilize the computed radiography (CR) system. This system assists the trained technologist in obtaining the highest quality images available and enhances workflow to reduce patient waiting times. These systems also decrease the need for chemicals for film processing, and allows your images to be stored electronically, making it easier to send images for consultation with other physicians when necessary. A Diagnostic X-ray room is located within the new Medical Arts Plaza for the convenience of our customers. Our Diagnostic X-ray exams are read by board certified radiologists CT Scanner BBGH upgraded to a Philips Brilliance 16-slice CT scanner in August of 2008. This CT scanner allows faster scans, with additional programs to better serve our patients and physicians. CT stands for Computed Tomography. It is an advanced technology system that actually allows a physician to see particular areas of interest, such as the brain, sinuses, spine, chest, abdomen, and pelvis when diagnosing and monitoring diseases or injuries. The exams generally take about 15 to 20 minutes to complete, depending on the area of interest requested. Your CT will be reviewed by the radiologist, who will pass the results to your doctor. Your doctor in turn, will discuss the results with you. Most patients are able to return to normal activities immediately following their exam. Mammography Our mammograms are read by board certified radiologists. We have a radiologist at BBGH one day a week to read our diagnostic exams. This is exciting because further evaluation can be done at BBGH. We perform routine screening mammograms Monday through Friday. We take personal interest in providing high quality of care for our patients and we try our best to help them understand that “we squeeze because we care.” If it hasn’t happened already, breast cancer is almost certain to affect you or someone you know. “The best protection is early detection.” Please visit our Breast Care/Mammography web page for more detailed information Ultrasound/Sonography Ultrasound technology is a diagnostic tool that uses high-frequency sound waves to visualize internal organs and structures. BBGH purchased a new ultrasound machine in 2007, a Philips iU22, providing advanced diagnostic imaging capabilities with an intelligent system interface that streamlines ultrasound exams for patients and clinicians. The images are stored, then reviewed, and read by a doctor specifically trained to read ultrasound. Bone Densitometry (DEXA) We currently have a mobile DEXA service on site one day a month. They are a full service company and can meet our patient’s needs. The exams typically take 15 minutes. DEXA scans measure the density of your bones to screen for osteoporosis. Our DEXA scans are read by board certified radiologists. Nuclear Medicine BBGH contracts with Front Range Mobile Imaging to provide its Nuclear Medicine services.
