Brian Shelmadine, DO, PhD, CSCS, CASQSM
Chief Medical Officer & Interim Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Shelmadine has been a primary care sports and lifestyle medicine provider since 2015 and joined BBGH in 2020. His experience in exercise, nutrition, teaching, coaching, and strength and conditioning began in 2003. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communication, a master’s in exercise science, a doctorate in exercise, nutrition and preventive health, a doctorate in osteopathic medicine, and two post-doctorates from various institutions.
As CMO, he provides oversight of medical care delivered by clinical staff, mentors providers, assists in resolving medical staff concerns, leads provider recruitment, enhances the well-being program, develops and updates medical protocols and procedures, and supports continuing medical education.
As Interim CEO, he handles overall management of Box Butte General Hospital including administrative responsibilities of the executive team, supporting and adhering to the direction of the Board of Trustees, and upholding the organization according to its mission, vision, and values.
He will continue practicing lifestyle and sports medicine at GNMSS. His clinic hours will be announced.
Erica Lauder, MSN, RN, CNOR
Chief Nursing Officer
Lauder completed her accelerated BSN in 2016 and began her nursing career in the BBGH surgery department. She was quickly promoted to Surgery Coordinator, where she focused on education and staff support. In 2020, she transitioned to the Clinical Nurse Manager role, overseeing surgery, cardiac rehab, specialty clinic, and infusion services.
As CNO, she serves as the senior nursing administrator for BBGH, overseeing nursing staff and administrative responsibilities for dialysis, the Emergency Department, multi-specialty services, infusion and wound care, ICU, patient care unit, surgery, pharmacy, cardio-pulmonary rehab, obstetrics, nursery, respiratory therapy/electro diagnostics, diabetes education, senior life solutions, and nursing education. She is also taking on oversight of the Quality division and looks forward to expanding her knowledge and exploring the “why” behind processes to improve patient care.
Outside of work, Lauder enjoys anything competitive. She golfs with her family, plays cribbage, travels, and spends time with loved ones.
Gabriel Behling, MHA, ACHE
Chief Operations Officer

Behling has nineteen years of leadership experience across the healthcare and energy sectors. Born and raised in rural canyonlands of Utah, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Services Administration from Weber State University and began his healthcare career at Intermountain Healthcare. After seven years, he moved to eastern Utah to be closer to family and transitioned into the energy sector, where he spent nine years leading teams and projects.
Driven by a passion for rural healthcare, Behling and his family relocated to Nebraska to re-enter the field. He became Director of Support Services at Great Plains Health while earning a Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of Minnesota. BBGH’s mission and rural care model aligned with his dedication to increasing access for underserved communities.
As COO, he oversees departments including environmental, plant, nutrition, lab, diagnostic imaging, and childcare services, materials management, information systems, safety, pharmacy, rehab, and organizational development.
When he’s not working, Behling enjoys time with his wife and two boys, as well as outdoor activities such as golf, upland game hunting, fly fishing, and horse racing.
Kim Morrow
Chief Financial Officer
Morrow has been working in the finance sector for over 30 years, with experience in healthcare finance for the last 5 years. She has experience in key specialties such as accounting, strategic planning, revenue cycle, auditing, and compliance
Before joining Box Butte General Hospital (BBGH) in 2020, Morrow worked as the Finance Director to the Wyoming Department of Education in Cheyenne where she was responsible for the financial departments of the agency including the school state aide funding model. She ensured compliance with state policies and worked directly with the state legislature to implement changes.
As a panhandle native, she returned to Nebraska and BBGH as the Accounting Controller in August 2020 and earned Employee of the Month in January of 2022. As CFO, Morrow oversees the financial health and strategic fiscal planning of the hospital, including budget development and financial performance, revenue cycle and reimbursement, and financial reporting and compliance. Morrow supervises the Patient Financial Services, Accounting Controller, Health Information Services, Admissions and the Box Butte Health Foundation. Morrow is focused on a comprehensive and thorough evaluation of every stage of a process. “To lead effectively, you must have a good understanding of the work processes of your staff, and knowing how each step and detail work together is imperative to achieving the department’s goals and ultimately the hospital’s mission,” says Morrow.
Outside of work, Morrow enjoys family time with her husband, two adult children, and two grandchildren who live in the area. Weekends are typically spent working on home improvement projects, taking care of their two German Shepherds, and playing with their grandchildren.
