Box Butte General Hospital donates $10,000 to APS Track fund

Box Butte General Hospital (BBGH) CEO Lori Mazanec and members of the APS Track Committee stand on the nearly completed Alliance High School track at Bulldog Stadium to announce a $10,000 donation from the hospital. “This is wonderful donation from another service provider of the community,” said APS Superintendent Dr. Troy Unzicker. “The hospital has always provided outstanding support for the school system that goes above and beyond.” Ms. Mazanec echoed that sentiment, saying, “Our mission at BBGH is to lead and innovate in health care delivery and community wellness. The donation really fits the community wellness part of our mission. We’ve known for a long time that we wanted to donate to the track fundraiser, knowing it’s not only used by students but by the public as well. We’ve always been a big booster of the Alliance Public Schools, and we will continue into the future.” Box Butte General Hospital, in collaboration with Panhandle Public Health District created a Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). Key priorities were established in a number of areas including physical activity among adults to reduce the impact of chronic disease. Improving walkability with a new track helps promote this priority area in the CHIP. Those present for the announcement were (left-right): Track committee members Mike Glesinger, AHS Athletic Director Anita James, Alliance Area Chamber of Commerce Director Susan Unzicker, Dr. Unzicker, Ms. Mazanec, AHS Assistant Track Coach Steve Nelson and BBGH Wellness Coordinator Dan Newhoff.
