The COVID-19 pandemic led to an international effort to create a vaccine in record time to immunize people around the world. Over 50 COVID-19 vaccines have progressed to the clinical trial phase in people in less than a year. Information from these trials will allow FDA to decide how safe and effective they are. Ongoing, long-term monitoring will continue as it does for all vaccine development. No steps in the normal vaccine development process have been skipped or shortened.
