The Box Butte General Hospital (BBGH) Board of Trustees (Board) meeting was called to order at 12:00 pm Monday, April 26th in the Alliance Room and via Zoom. Four board members were present with one excused absence. The abbreviated agenda included dialogue on the current status of the COVID-19 vaccine, and an upcoming sleep lab accreditation survey. March’s financial report, consent calendar and credentialing requests were approved as presented.
The Greater Nebraska Medical and Surgical Services (GNMSS) clinic will begin administering the COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday May 11th. More details will follow in a separate statement. With the approval of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the State of Nebraska has authorized resumption of administering the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. It was previously paused due to clotting disorders in some patients. The FDA has deemed resuming the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine safe.
Western Sleep Medicine is a contracted service of BBGH that provides sleep studies. It will be surveyed for accreditation on June 2nd. Western Sleep Medicine is currently accredited as an organization, but being the organization that offers the service, BBGH is required to be accredited as well. This provides BBGH an opportunity to look at contracted services to ensure the standard of care is met throughout the organization.
New BBGH employees introduced include Megan Salzer, Surgical Technician, Sharron Whitwer, Surgical Technician, Kristin Garza Nursing Assistant/Ward Clerk, Jeremy Maples-van Dunk, Maintenance Technician, and Katherine Hunzeker, IT Computer Educator. Staff recognition includes Rachel Nerud, Pharmacist, April Employee of the Month, Carolyn Jones, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, CNO, recently passed the Nurse Executive Advanced Certification exam.
The trustees entered into an executive session regarding personnel and quality matters at 12:17pm, and with no action taken came out of executive session at 1:37pm and adjourned the meeting. The next BBGH regular board meeting is Monday, May 24th at noon in the Alliance Room. In the interest of room size limitations, the public is welcome to attend via Zoom.
