BBGH June Board Report

BBGH June Board Meeting

The Box Butte General Hospital (BBGH) Board of Trustees meeting was called to order at 12 p.m. Monday, June 28th in the Alliance Room. Four board members were present. The abbreviated agenda included updates on the Sleep Study accreditation survey, Quality Management & Safety, and approval request for the 2021-22 fiscal year budget. May’s financial report, consent calendar and credentialing requests were all approved as presented.

BBGH underwent an accreditation survey in June to ensure the site Western Medicine Sleep Study practices in is meeting the required standards. This survey was the first of its kind at BBGH, as usually the company who conducts sleep studies is surveyed, not the site. However, Accreditation Specialist Gail Burke said the survey went “quite well” and that there were only three findings, with one corrected onsite at the time of the survey. Western Medicine Sleep Study has partnered with BBGH to provide this service to the community since 2013.

Quality and Safety updates included information about vaccination statistics, TestNebraska, and new Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) requirements. Chief Quality Officer Mary Mockerman reported about 30% of eligible Panhandle residents have received a COVID-19 vaccine while about 50% of the workforce at BBGH have been fully vaccinated. While there are still vaccines available to those 12 years of age and up, the State of Nebraska announced the TestNebraska site will be closing July 18. Mockerman stated that an alternative solution will be found for those with an order for a COVID-19 test.

Following a budget workshop held with the Trustees on June 21, the proposed budget of $83 million gross revenue was approved as presented. The budget anticipates normal operations following a year of unanticipated changes due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The hospitals fiscal year begins July 1, 2021.

New BBGH employees introduced include Gretchen Hubert, RN, Christina Dillard, Therapist, Jeremy Maples, Maintenance Tech, and Bill Luke as Interim Chief Financial Officer. Also recognized were Janelle Trickler for receiving Employee of the Month, and BreAnna Holmes for receiving her Certified Emergency Nurse Specialization (CEN).

The next BBGH regular board meeting is Monday, July 26 at noon in the Alliance Room. The public is welcome to attend via Zoom if preferred; contact Jennifer Dentler at 308-761- 3392 for the link.
