The Box Butte General Hospital (BBGH) Board of Trustees meeting was called to order at 12:00 p.m. Monday, April 25, 2022 in the Alliance Room at BBGH. CEO Lori Mazanec began the meeting with remembering the life of two BBGH employees, Martina Jordan and Blythe Boness. BBGH will be planting two trees in their memory. The month’s agenda included a summary of the patient safety survey, the announcement of scholarship recipients, and the status of BBGH’s transition to Meditech. The consent calendar, April financial report, and credentialing requests were all approved as presented.
Quality and Safety updates included COVID-19 booster recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the results from a recent patient safety survey, and steps for improvement opportunities. Chief Quality Officer Mary Mockerman stated the CDC now recommends a second COVID-19 vaccine booster for those 50 and older. As of April 25, there were zero COVID-19 admissions for the month. The staff of BBGH was asked to participate in a patient safety survey earlier in 2022. The results of the survey revealed both strengths and opportunities. Areas of strength the participants identified are protection from workplace hazards, direct leadership support for workplace safety, and moving/transferring/lifting patients. Areas of opportunities for BBGH to improve are implementing training for workplace aggression from patients/visitors and hospital management support for workplace safety. Additional results of the survey shared the percentage of burnout participants are experiencing. Of the participants, 28% had zero symptoms of burnout and 22% had one or more symptoms of burnout.
Interim Chief Nursing Officer Carolyn Jones presented the recipients of BBGH and Box Butte Health Foundation’s (BBHF) annual academic scholarship. The recipients of the BBGH scholarship are Sydney Allard, Kylie Casados, Angie Davis, Luna Gonzalez, Dalton Krug, Riley Lawrence, Leyton Schnell, Lilly Wagner, and Issac Weems. The Meditech project team conducted meetings and trainings this past week with various departments pertinent to the program. The project team is finalizing the areas of the program each employee will need to be trained in. The access date is scheduled for May 9th and the go-live date is November 1st.
