BBGH Announces 2025 Employee of the Year
Infusion Department Nurse, Courtney Schnell, BSN, RN, of Box Butte General Hospital (BBGH) was recently honored with the 2025 Employee of the Year Award! The award is part of BBGH’s recognition of those who exemplify the BBGH values of Devotion, Integrity, Safety, Excellence, Compassion, and Teamwork and make BBGH a great place to work, to practice medicine, and to receive care.
Courtney’s nomination reads:
“I am pleased to nominate Courtney Schnell for EOM. Although based in Infusion, she consistently goes above and beyond her role, embodying our core values of Excellence, Compassion, Integrity, Devotion, and Teamwork in every interaction. Excellence: Courtney delivers an exceptional level of clinical care, no matter where she is needed. She transitions seamlessly between departments- Infusion, Ultrasound IVs starts hospital wide, Emergency Department, Cardiac Rehab, and Surgery- always maintaining high standards and ensuring patients receive safe, high-quality care. Compassion: Courtney approaches every patient with empathy and kindness. Whether calming an anxious, highly-sensitive situation in the emergency department as a SANE nurse or seeing someone when they feel their worst after chemo treatments, she creates a comforting and reassuring environment during stressful moments. This may be her most shining attribute to BBGH. You hear her patients raving about the care she provides and asking to come back if she is present. Integrity: Courtney is dependable, professional, and trustworthy. She upholds our ethical standards, communicates honestly and consistently does the right thing- even when no one is watching. Devotion: Her dedication to our facility and community is evident in her willingness to step in whenever staffing is tight or an emergent situation arises. She never hesitates to adjust her day to ensure patient care comes first. Teamwork: She is the first to volunteer to help across departments, often anticipating needs before they are spoken. Her presence lifts team morale and strengthens interdepartmental relationships. For her remarkable versatility, positive attitude, and unwavering commitment to our mission, Courtney is truly deserving of being employee of the month.”
Courtney has dedicated nine years to exceptional patient care at BBGH, beginning as a personal trainer in The Wellness Center and earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and her license as a Registered Nurse. She was a surgical technician and then a nurse in the surgery department and now in the infusion department. "Courtney represents the very best of BBGH. Her skilled teamwork, clinical excellence, and genuine kindness elevate every patient interaction, and we are deeply grateful for her commitment to our mission and the compassionate care we promise our community. Nurses like her- highly skilled, collaborative, and deeply dedicated- are essential to quality healthcare and we are incredibly proud to have her on our team,” said Interim Chief Executive Officer and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Brian Shelmadine. Courtney said she chose BBGH because she, “believes it is truly the best place to work, receive care, and practice medicine.
