Joint Replacement and Preservation
Modern joint replacement of the hip, knee, or shoulder is becoming increasingly more common. Dr. Bomberg strives to keep up with all the advances in joint preservation to make this a great experience. Dr. Bomberg started the total joint program with Yampa Valley Medical Center and Box Butte Medical Center. We quit using metal staples in our wounds and seal them with advanced skin glue and under-the-skin sutures. Medication to prevent transfusions is utilized whenever possible and we have virtually eliminated post-op blood transfusions. Special long-acting numbing medicine and pain cocktails are used in the wounds to ensure very manageable pain in the immediate to 72-hour postoperative course. This has allowed most of our patients to only stay overnight with accommodation for outpatient joint replacement being available. These newer techniques and a dedicated total joint team of nursing, therapy, and operating room personnel have led to advanced recovery and the highest levels of patient satisfaction!
